the church of st. savior in chora - kariye camii. one of the most beautiful byzantine churches, at the edirnekapı district. the original church was built in the early 5th century, outside the walls of constantinople, to the south of the golden horn. in the 16th century, the church was converted into a mosque by the ottoman rulers, and in 1948 became a museum. its interior is covered with mosaics and frescoes.
